The Nobel prize in physiology or medicine 2025 has been awarded to three scientists for their work on how the immune system is kept in check and prevented from attacking our own body.Mary E Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi have been awarded the prize “for their discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance”.Announced on Monday by the Nobel assembly at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, the winners will share a prize of 11m Swedish kronor (about £871,400).This is the 116th prize for physiology or medicine, 13 of which have previously been awarded to women.Last year’s prize went to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun for the discovery of microRNA – tiny RNA molecules that help cells control which proteins they produce.More details soon …
